Futball For Peace, My Readers! Futball for Peace?! That’s A Strange Greeting! Oh Yes, As of Right Now, Brings one of The Uniting Event in The World of Sport.
What Event in World Sport, Am I talking about?! The Olympics? Nope. Something called The World Cup!
When What I am about to Mention gets Mentioned, It’s bound to get a Reaction. A Good Reaction, not A Triggering Reaction. However, It is the Type of Reaction in which You Get that Not Only Varies but, Is Fascinating in some Weird Way.
The Mention that I am referring to is The World Cup, in Other Words, A Sport known Worldly as “Futball” or
What We American refer to as Soccer.
Now, To be Fair, I have never really been into Any Sports, except for Big Sporting Events (like The Olympics) or A Team I like is in A Championship in that Sport.
Now Yes, Outside of The Olympics, I do love
The San Antonio Spurs (They Party Cleanly, A Tradition that They call “Going Honking”) in Basketball. Add in The Dallas Mavericks because They have Potential Too.
And, In American Football, Maybe The Dallas Cowboys, not as much Loyalty. And
The University of Georgia (aka “College Football”) for Good Measure.
And, Then, There’s Futball (aka Soccer).
In My Memory, I have only been to a Soccer Game once and that was when My Childhood Friend, Brooke had a Soccer Game and No One Else wanted to go; so I went to Support Her.
So, That’s My Theory about Soccer in General.
Oh But, Honey! There is Much than That in The World of Futball (aka “Soccer”).
With that Said, I am going to Try to Explain It and Please for The Love of Goodness, Don’t Get Offended if I accidently Trip on a Cord or Wire while Trying to Explain This.

++ (What is The World Cup?: A Sport that The Rest of The World Loves but, America Doesn
Okay, In The United States, When It comes to Sports,
The Most Likely Answer to The “What’s Your Favorite Sport” Question is likely to be either Baseball, Basketball, or Football. Football, meaning American Football.
Now, that’s not to Say that There aren’t ANY Americans that Love Soccer, It is just There aren’t as Many compared Other Countries.
Generally, Most of The World (with a Few Exceptions) is into Futball (AKA Soccer) and They hold it Very Dear.
Like an Italian Grandmother loves to Cook or a Greek Mother Loves to Make Sure Their Child is Happy. Need I go on?
Add that to The List of Things that Compare us Differently, Miles v. Kilometers; Fahrenheit v. Celsius;
12 Hour v. 24 Hour Clock (Get Me Every Time!)
And, Now, American Football v. “World Football” (Soccer)
By The Way, I don’t mean that in A Divisive Way, I’m just saying. So, What happens when The World Cup comes to A Host Country (Partly Anyway) that is not into Soccer?
So, Now Let’s Talk about Explaining The World Cup.
++ It is An Event that The Length of The Olympics (40 Days) but, Games are (Sort of) like The Super Bowl
Okay, Americans Listen Up!
So, You know who We Americans love Literally The Biggest Sporting Event, Here in The US?! The Super Bowl. Well, To The Rest of The World. The World Cup is basically Their Version of The Super Bowl. Only There are Some (Hmm..) Major Differences to This.
Instead of One Super Bowl Sunday, Imagine a Super Bowl-like Event that is Similar to The Super Bowl but, Twice as Long as The Olympics and
“A Super Bowl” Game (Worldlys call it a “Match”) is Pretty Much Every Day for at least 40 Days
(Okay, Technically 39 Days!). Oh and There is Multiple “Matches” per Day.
And, Most Importantly, Instead of A City v. City Playing Each Other in This Multi-Game and Multi-Match Super Bowl,
It is Country v. Country. So, If One Country Wins, The Whole Country celebrates. Talk about Uniting! It’s sort like the “Going Honking” Tradition in San Antonio, Only It involves The Entire Country!
So, Now that, that as Been Explained. What have I been observing among This “Super Bowl of Soccer” World Event?
++ My World Cup Observations ++
Not as Violent as Hockey or American Football
Both My Mom and I have been Watching Some of The “Matches” and One Thing is Pretty Clear. That Soccer played Professionally anyway, is not as
Violent as American Football or Even Hockey.
In American Football, You got to wear a A Big Helmet,
Knee Pads, Mouth Guard and so on. And, Same Thing applies to Hockey.
Soccer, meanwhile, It is just Your Body and The Funny yet Cool Thing is that You can use Any Part of Your Body to hit The Ball. This Ties in The Second Observation!
++ It’s No Contact Sport (Where Most American Sports are)
My Mom and I both realized while Watching One of The Matches that Soccer is Mostly a No-Contact Sport, At least (Again) to American Sports like Basketball or
American Football. You can Use Your Foot, Your Knee, Even Your Head to Hit the Ball. It’s Actually Quite Funny to watch a Guy hit The Ball with His Head.
To Me, It’s Funny. To “Worldlys”, It is Serious!
By The Way, “Worldlys” is a Made-Up Term that I came up to mean, Those around The World that Are Serious as They Come about Soccer.
And, Now, I’m going to Explain The Soccer Game (Roughly)!
++ The Field is like a Football Field
minus The Lines
When I first started Watching The World Cup, It looks like The Soccer Field is Bigger than an American Football.
It isn’t. Actually Correction, It slightly Bigger than an American Football Field.
It is basically (Like) an American Football Field but, without The Goal Lines. Okay, Next is Probably The Strangest Differe
++ Time Counts Upwards (To 90 Minutes),
instead of Downward in Quarters
So, in American Sports, like Basketball and American Football, The Game Clock goes Upward Continuously until It hits 90 Minutes. Of Course, If It Tied up still, Then Additional Minutes are added as a General Rule.
Soccer is One Continuous Game, whereas Basketball and American Football countdown and are Separated into Quarters.
So, What about The Attitude toward Said Game?! Well, This is The Point where We can Hit The Motherload of Reactions!
++ To Americans,
Sporting Events are Entertainment
To The World, It’s Very Emotional
So, Again I don’t mean to Trip over Cords and Wires Here, Just so You Know!
Now, This is The Point in The Newsletter, Where Reactions are Guaranteed to happen. And, Believe Futball
So, As an American, Generally, When Americans watch Sporting Events, to us, It is about The Entertainment Factor. What Player hits Another Player, Fouls on Players, What Player almost Outruns What Player, and Of Course, Who’s Playing in The Halftime Show.
However, To Worldly Soccer Fans, A Soccer Game or
Futball Match is much more than “Just a Match”.
Since World Cup Soccer is about What Country is Playing What Country. Everyone cheers for Their Country like Their Lives depended on it! People will Literally, Lauch, Cry or Even Scream if Their Country Won or Lost in World Cup Soccer. And, The Most Triggering Section, The Fans!
++ And, Lastly, The Fans are Very Passionate. Remember The Emotion Above. Perhaps more than American (Example: Netherlands Trademark Orange Parade + Events)
Okay, You Know The Fans of Things like Bands or Even Sports Teams can be ... A Little Interesting.
So, Considering The Passion about The Game and The Country, also comes with It’s Fans. Now, No, This Part is Not Child Play!
It’s “Go Spurs Go!” (San Antonio Basketball);
It’s A “Go Pats!” (New England); “Go Eagles” (Philly);
“How ‘bout Them Cowboys” (Dallas Cowboys).
Nope! This is Where that Stereotype of
The “Soccer Hooligan” that We Americans seen in Movies. This is Where that comes in.
To Be Fair, “Soccer Hooligans” are Nice but,
Can get Rowdy Sometimes.
Personally, I have heard (Allegedly) that England Teams like Manchester United is The Biggest of Them All.
But, Like I said, Soccer is Passionate! The Biggest I seen so Far.
Team Netherlands and Their Team Bus literally Paraded in Arlington, Texas and A Burger Restaurant in Richardson with a Literal Sea of Orange! A Sea of Orange! And, I’m Talking Bright Orange! It is The Dutch’s Biggest Identifier and Trademark, by Far! The Best Choice for You, Netherlands!
Yesterday, Team Croatia literally Paraded through Downtown Dallas with A Huge Checkered Flag,
Again, That’s A Good Trademark for You, Croatia.
See What I mean?! That’s What I call Passion!
Anyway, I am Believing that You Enjoyed My (Attempt) at Explaining The World Cup and World Cup Soccer!
All in All, Enjoy This World Cup Event because It probably The Most Unifying Sporting Event in The World (Besides The Olympics). For Those Wondering, I’m not a Soccer Fan like Those around The World but, IF I had to Cheer on and/or Be Fan of a Team, It probably be Italia (Italy); Croatia;
The United States (Cause You got to);
Spain (For Good Measure); and
Of Course, Oranje The Netherlands
